Ex-yakuza create high demand for prosthetics fingers
In Japan, yakuza members who commit severe offenses lop off their left pinkies in a ritual known as the ‘yubitsume’, with more digits progressively sacrificed with subsequent offenses. Faced with social stigma when they try to re-adjust back to Japanese society, this has inadvertently led to a high demand for prosthetics in the form of fingers. As ex-yakuza member Shigeru Takei told ABC News, “If you don’t have fingers, there’s no way to get a sales job.” Prosthetics maker Shintaro Hayashi says about 5% of his clientele ask for this procedure — with regular customers returning three or four times a year as the fake fingers deteriorate from wear and tear or discolor with seasons. Zimmerman's Parents in Hiding from 'Enormous Amount of Death Threats'
George Zimmerman immediately went back into hiding after being acquitted of murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, his parents told Barbara Walters in an exclusive interview with ABC News, adding that they haven't seen him since he left the courthouse. The Zimmermans said that because of "an enormous amount of death threats," they, too, have remained in hiding and still don't feel safe enough to return to their home in Orlando, Fla. Two days after a Florida jury found their 29-year-old son not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in the death of Martin, 17, Zimmerman's parents, Robert Zimmerman Sr. and Gladys Zimmerman, sat down for their first television interview.
