Egyptian Army Gives Government, Opposition 48 Hours To Resolve Differences
Egypt's army has given the country's rival parties 48 hours to resolve a deadly political crisis. It would offer its own "road map" for peace if Islamist President Mohammed Morsi and his opponents failed to reach a deal. In his pre-recorded statement broadcast on state television on Monday evening, the head of the armed forces described the protests as an "unprecedented" expression of the popular will, but Gen Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said the army would not get involved in politics or government. I actually welcome this news as it prevents, hopefully, a civil war and massive unrest.
